Wasatch Backcountry

We couldn't have asked for a better day to celebrate two Presidents' birthdays! The sun was shining, we have lots of snow, and the avalanche danger was low. So we decided to take advantage! We had a hard time deciding where to go, but we settled on snowshoeing to Donut Falls in Big Cottonwood Canyon. It's a short hike, but very scenic. The best part was how much wildlife we saw today. There was a huge herd of elk on the mountain by the side of our house when we left with one large buck heading up the harem of females. Then we saw a few moose while snowshoeing and later in the day we saw a bobcat dart across the road below our house. It's amazing that within 15 minutes of the city, you can see all that wildlife and simply "get away from it all." Now for the pics...

Unfortunately we didn't get pics of the elk or the bobcat, maybe next time...

***PS*** We also went on a SLC photo tour with our friends on Saturday, click on the teaser pic below for more great shots of SLC.

Oh my heck! You saw a bobcat! One time we saw a moose and I cried because I was scared. I hate wild animals.

Yes, we did see a bobcat, it darted across the road towards our house. Do you want to come over? :-)

Is that moose stuck up to it's neck in snow?

haha, it looks like it, eh? It was just laying down, but the snow was about 5-6 feet deep in most places. You can see some Forest Service toilet houses in one of the pics and they're buried up to the eaves.

Brad what would I do with out you and Gina helping me with all those crazy blog demons out there!?

Two Wheeler said...

No worries Chuntz. I hate those little word recognition things too, in fact I haven't enabled them on this blog yet and every time I get spammed here, I just manually delete it. If the spamming gets too bad, I'm sure I'll enable word recognition here too, unfortunately. One of the banes of the internet that we just have to deal with.

Well we need to go then Rach! Before the snow melts,we even have kiddie snowshoes that would be perfect for Addie if you wanted to take her too. We have 7 adult pair, so let's make it a partay!

Brad you take great photos. I think you should go into the business of photography/energy efficiency. That would be a pretty good gig!

Two Wheeler said...

Thanks Lisa, I'll keep practicing! :-)
