To go with that last post...

Here's a close-up of what it looked like looking towards downtown. The panorama from the previous post doesn't show the blue-ish hue as well as this one does. I think this photo is truer to what our eyes saw last night.

We've been having the coolest weather patterns here lately (well, except for the smog), and it's been making for some great panorama photos from our balcony.

Enjoy (click for larger image, bigger is better, eh?)

Ringing in the New Year!

Besides the party that we had for New Year's (I'm sure GinaBina will post about that...), we celebrated the new year and the new snow with snowshoeing up by Mountain Dell Reservoir.

Here's the view we woke up to yesterday...

Wasatch Backcountry

We couldn't have asked for a better day to celebrate two Presidents' birthdays! The sun was shining, we have lots of snow, and the avalanche danger was low. So we decided to take advantage! We had a hard time deciding where to go, but we settled on snowshoeing to Donut Falls in Big Cottonwood Canyon. It's a short hike, but very scenic. The best part was how much wildlife we saw today. There was a huge herd of elk on the mountain by the side of our house when we left with one large buck heading up the harem of females. Then we saw a few moose while snowshoeing and later in the day we saw a bobcat dart across the road below our house. It's amazing that within 15 minutes of the city, you can see all that wildlife and simply "get away from it all." Now for the pics...

Unfortunately we didn't get pics of the elk or the bobcat, maybe next time...

***PS*** We also went on a SLC photo tour with our friends on Saturday, click on the teaser pic below for more great shots of SLC.

Welcome Old Man Winter!

I am so excited that it snowed today! It has been too long since we've had any snow, so it was about time. The resorts need it, the valley needed it to blow out the inversion, we all needed it! I got so excited I just had to snap some pics on the way home today. So enjoy...

Another snowy ride at 9:30 am

Today the same snowstorm that has been wreaking havoc on the West coast hit us here in Utah. When I left for school, it had just started to snow (at 8:00 am) and when I was going home at 9:30am, it was snowing pretty good. It kept up all day and now we have a good solid 6" of snow. It's supposed to keep snowing through tomorrow and Saturday too. Should be a good time!

Winter Commuting

We finally had the first storm and really cold weather hit us this year. Temperatures haven't gotten above freezing for the past 3 or 4 days. The mornings have been roughly -11°C (12°F) but right now (10:00 am) it's a balmy -3°C (26°F) so the ride to school this morning should be nice, cough.

Due to the snow and cold, I decided it was time to put away the slick tires for the winter and switch over to the cyclocross knobbies. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

They've been working great and the commute has been good on them so far. I also couldn't live without the fenders, they keep me dry and also keep the salt off me. Now for some pics of the dirty yet efficient rig.
